The Library of Science is one of the key open access platforms in Poland, providing researchers with convenient tools for finding scientific materials. It brings together thousands of publications from various fields, ensures quick access to research and promotes the popularisation of science. The Library of Science provides access to thousands of scientific publications across different disciplines. In this article, we explain how the platform works and why it is useful for researchers.

What is the Library of Science?
The Library of Science is an open online platform, established in 2001 at the University of Warsaw. The resource provides access to metadata and full texts of articles published in Polish scientific journals, as well as selected scientific monographs.
The platform was created under the project “Platform of Polish Scientific Publications” (Platforma Polskich Publikacji Naukowych, PPPN) and is financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
What is the structure of the Library of Science?
- Publisher page. Contains publisher details, including contact information, logo, open access policy and link to the publisher’s website. It also includes tabs with lists of published journals and books.
- Journal page. Contains information on the editorial board, journal frequency, open access policy and publication ethics. Each journal page also includes a short description.
- Scientific publications pages. Each type of scientific publication in the Library of Science has its own subpage with all metadata, providing users with quick and practical access to materials.
Content of the Library of Science
The platform provides full-text access to materials from five specialised databases:
- AGRO – journals in natural and agricultural sciences
- BazTech (Database of Polish Technical Journals) – journals in engineering, technology and exact sciences
- CEJSH (The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities) – journals in humanities, social sciences, theology and arts
- DML-PL (Digital Mathematics Library – Poland) – journals in mathematics
- PSJD (Polish Scientific Journals Database in Medicine and Health Sciences) – journals in medicine and health sciences
The Library of Science covers 10 disciplines:
- Humanities
- Engineering and technical sciences
- Agricultural sciences
- Medical and health sciences
- Social sciences
- Exact and natural sciences
- Theological sciences
- Family sciences
- Veterinary sciences
- Arts
Available resources include:
- articles published in scientific journals, grouped chronologically by issues (books or volumes)
- scientific monographs in book format written by an author or co-author
- chapters forming collective research
The platform includes thousands of articles, journals and books, with 48% of publications under a Creative Commons (CC) licence, ensuring compliance with international open access standards.

Access to the Library of Science
Access to the platform is completely free. All you need is a web browser and an internet connection. Articles and books can be read online or downloaded to a computer or mobile device without authorisation.
Publishing in the Library of Science significantly increases visibility in search engines, promotes wider dissemination of research results and boosts citation levels.
For users, the following tools are available:
- bibliographic citation generator according to selected standards
- data export to the PBN system (read more about this database in our article).
Researchers do not need to create a profile to use the platform. The platform is managed by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling at the University of Warsaw, where the Open Science Platform team works.
How to find publications in the Library of Science?
On the homepage there is a field for a simple search of materials in books or journals.

The resource also provides an advanced search page, where filters can be applied such as:
- publication language and years
- disciplines
- journal title / ISSN
- author(s) of publication
- keywords

The advanced search system helps narrow down results. By filling in more than one field, you will receive results that meet all selected criteria.
How to publish research in the Library of Science?
If you need to publish an article in the Library of Science, you can do so following this algorithm:
- Log in to a publisher account on the platform, created by the ICM administrator, after signing an agreement between the publisher and the platform.
- Upload the appropriate file.
- Enter all required metadata of the article.
Data entry can be done manually using built-in tools (Marker, Cermine) that simplify the form-filling process.
Regardless of the method, each form must undergo verification and approval: first confirmed by the publisher’s account holder, then by the ICM administrator, who finalises publication.
The Library of Science is an extremely effective tool for increasing the visibility of research and boosting citations, as it is accessible to all scientists. Publishing here is especially useful for young researchers, helping them build professional connections, launch joint research and contribute to scientific development overall.
