How to avoid publishing in a journal that may be excluded from Scopus?
Before submitting an article for consideration to the journal's editorial board, you should familiarise yourself with the journal in detail. The author should pay attention to some criteria and indicators that may indicate that the journal may be excluded from the Scopus database.
What should you pay attention to?
-
Publication activity
High publication activity in a journal may indicate its dubious activity. Since publication in Scopus is paid and requires contributions from authors, some publications may use it as a way to make money.
For example, if a journal published 8 articles in an issue 4 times a year before being indexed in the Scopus database, and after indexing it began to publish monthly with a doubling or tripling of the number of articles in an issue, this may be an alarming signal.
Therefore, we recommend that authors research and analyse the activity of the journal before and after indexing in Scopus to avoid possible errors and unsuccessful publications.
-
Journal topics and relevance of the material
It is important to pay attention to the topics and areas of research published by the journal, as well as the relevance of the published material to these topics and areas. If a journal is focused only on making money, it may start publishing research that does not correspond to the declared areas on the journal's website.
Such actions may indicate the dishonesty of the journal and its low scientific reputation. Before publishing, authors should carefully assess the publication activity and relevance to the subject matter of the journal to avoid publishing in dubious or unworthy journals.
-
Fast review and acceptance of the article
If the journal quickly confirms the acceptance of your article for further publication (1-3 weeks), this may indicate that the quality of the manuscript review is insufficient. Such speed may violate the journal's editorial policy and lead to its exclusion from the Scopus database.
It is important to remember that fast review and peer review for databases such as Scopus is virtually impossible. This process usually lasts from 2 to 6 months and depends on the journal's workload, its specifics, the readiness of your material, and other factors.
Experienced specialists of Scientific Publications have been working in this field for almost 8 years and are ready to help you achieve new scientific achievements. If you need a guaranteed publication in the Scopus database, don't hesitate to contact us.
