Application and review procedure
Applications were submitted from 1 to 31 December 2023. The applications are reviewed in accordance with the procedure established by Article 360 of the Law "On Higher Education and Science".
The applications were evaluated by an advisory group consisting of experts in various scientific and artistic disciplines. The advisory group evaluated the applications using a scoring system, which allowed for an objective comparison of the candidates' achievements within each discipline.
According to the group's guidelines, no more than 5 scholarships could be recommended to young scientists in each discipline, of which only 1 could be awarded to a doctoral student. If fewer than 5 scholarships were recommended in a particular discipline, a levelling mechanism could be applied. If there were places available in a particular discipline, they could be filled by candidates from other disciplines in the same field of science.
Each discipline has two separate rankings:
- The first ranking includes individuals with a doctorate, academic staff without a doctorate, and those preparing their doctoral thesis externally.
- The second ranking is for doctoral students only.
Upon completion of the evaluation, the ranking lists were compiled and submitted to the Minister of Science, Dariusz Wieczorek, along with recommendations. Based on these lists and recommendations, the Minister decided to award the scholarships to the best young scientists.
Duration and amount of the scholarship
The scholarship is awarded for a period not exceeding 3 years.
In some cases, the scholarship is suspended for a certain period:
- a break in scientific activity related to parental leave in accordance with the eighth section of the Law of 26 June 1974 - the Labour Code;
- periods of receiving sickness benefits;
- periods of rehabilitation due to incapacity for work, including diseases requiring medical rehabilitation.
The amount of the scholarship is PLN 5,390 per month.
The scholarships are paid by the entities that applied for them. The entities are responsible for ensuring the payment of scholarships to young scientists. After the decision to award the scholarships is made, the said entities will be notified of the necessary actions to conclude contracts with the young scientists who received the scholarships to ensure timely and proper payment of these funds.
Active research and publication activities significantly increase the chances of young scientists to receive such scholarships. Do not miss the opportunity to participate in various scientific events and publish in prestigious scientific journals, as this contributes to professional and personal success.
