The successful publication of a scientific article depends not only on the quality of the research itself. Thorough preparation before submitting the work helps reduce the risk of rejection and increase the chances of successfully completing the editorial process. What aspects should be considered for the successful publication of a paper? We will discuss this in our article.

1. Choose a journal that matches the research topic
One of the common reasons for rejection is a mismatch between the article and the journal’s scope. Even high-quality research may be rejected if its topic does not correspond to the aims and thematic scope of the publication.
Before submission, it is worth checking the journal’s subject area, the types of articles it publishes, manuscript requirements, target audience and whether it has published articles on similar topics.
2. Clearly indicate the scientific novelty
The editor and reviewers should understand exactly what contribution the paper makes to the development of the scientific field. It is important not only to present the results obtained, but also to explain how they differ from previous studies and what significance they may have for science or practice.
The scientific novelty should be evident in the introduction, statement of the aim, results, discussion and conclusions.
3. Work on the structure of the manuscript
The article should be logical, consistent and clear. For many empirical studies, the IMRaD structure is used, which includes the introduction, methods, results and discussion. It is particularly important to:
- clearly formulate the research problem and aim
- describe the methodology in detail
- present the results logically
- compare the obtained data with previous studies
- formulate well-founded conclusions
4. Follow the requirements of the chosen journal
Before submission, it is necessary to carefully review the instructions for authors. Editorial offices may set specific requirements regarding structure, length, reference list formatting, abstract, keywords, tables, figures and accompanying documents.
Even minor technical inconsistencies may result in the manuscript being returned for revision before the peer-review process begins.
5.Check the quality of the text
The text should be clear, consistent and stylistically appropriate for academic writing. Grammatical errors, ambiguous wording and incorrect use of terminology can make even strong research more difficult to understand.
If the article is submitted in English, particular attention should be paid to academic translation and language editing.
6. Check the methodology and results
Methodology is one of the key elements assessed by reviewers. The methods should correspond to the stated aim, while the results obtained should be reliable and properly substantiated. Before submission, it is worth additionally checking the correctness of the sample, statistical analysis, description of procedures, presented data and compliance with ethical requirements. In addition, the results obtained should fully correspond to the stated methodology.
7. Prepare the title and abstract
The title and abstract form the editor’s first impression of the manuscript. They should accurately reflect the content of the article and the main result of the research. The title of the article should be relevant and correspond to current challenges and gaps in the scientific field. The abstract should concisely convey the aim, methods, key results and conclusions without unnecessary general statements.
8. Use current and relevant sources
A high-quality literature review demonstrates that the author understands the current state of the problem and can substantiate the place of their research among already published works.
It is advisable to combine fundamental sources with current studies from recent years and check the accuracy of all bibliographic references.
9. Work carefully with reviewers’ recommendations
Peer review is a normal part of the publication process. Reviewers’ comments should be addressed consistently and with proper justification. In the response to the review, it is advisable to comment separately on each remark, indicate the changes made and, if necessary, justify the author’s position if they disagree with a particular recommendation.
10. Carry out a final check before submission
Before submitting the article, it is worth checking the manuscript, author details, reference list, tables, figures, additional files and accompanying documents once again. It is also necessary to ensure that the article meets the journal’s technical and content requirements and does not contain errors that can be corrected before editorial assessment.
The chances of successful publication increase significantly when the author takes a systematic approach to preparing the manuscript. Ignoring the above-mentioned stages may delay the publication of the paper or result in its rejection.
