Why do academic journals lose their Scopus indexing?
Publishing in a Scopus-indexed journal boosts a scientist's standing and opens access to the international research community. To maintain this status, the database regularly checks journals against its own standards. Where violations are found, a journal loses its indexing.
Among the main reasons a journal may be excluded from Scopus:
- regularly publishing articles of low scientific value that have little impact on the development of their field
- breaches of research ethics – plagiarism, self-plagiarism, authorship manipulation and other dishonest practices
- suspicious patterns in the journal's metrics – a sharp, unexplained rise in the number of publications or self-citations
- peer review and the quality of published material falling short of the platform's requirements
- a significant change in the journal's editorial policy – a shift in scope, weaker manuscript-selection criteria and similar changes

Which reasons for exclusion were most common in August 2026?
In August 2026, three academic journals were excluded from Scopus.
